10 Million Digital Wallets Introduced for BISP Beneficiaries

The BISP initiative is a landmark program, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He appreciated the fundamental work and dedication that has helped expand this program across the nation. Moreover, he directed some crucial amendments to enhance financial support for beneficiaries.

10 Million Digital Wallets Introduced For Beneficiaries

The 8171 Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) beneficiaries received 10 million digital wallets on Monday, which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called a “historic milestone” in Pakistan’s efforts to promote financial inclusion, transparency, and a cashless economy.

Federal ministries, BISP officials, and international partners, including GIZ, joined the prime minister in a symbolic palm touch to launch the initiative. He praised the decision as a precaution against exploitation for legitimate receivers and congratulated BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid, the BISP staff, and partner institutions.

PM Shehbaz Highlights Importance of BISP Digital Wallet

The digital wallet system, which gives BISP clients safe, transparent, and direct access to financial aid, is truly blessed by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s spirit, according to PM Shehbaz.

BISP is a great initiative for poverty alleviation and employment generation,” he said, emphasizing that further work was required to increase its impact.

Opening Gates For Cashless BISP Payment

The prime minister referred to the launch as “a great leap towards a cashless economy” and highlighted that, in spite of opposition and skepticism from special interests, 78% of the relief package was effectively distributed online during Ramadan.

“The most urgent need of our time is cashless transactions. They help Pakistan advance quickly by bringing efficiency, eradicating corruption, and saving time,” he remarked.

Despite early “indifferent attitudes and boredom,” PM Shehbaz stated, he had personally led several sessions on digitization. He emphasized his dedication to converting personal, business, and government interactions into digital channels.

Linking BISP Support With Health & Education

In addition to offering financial assistance, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the BISP should motivate families to prioritize healthcare and education.

In addition to ensuring that their children attend school on a regular basis, he recommended that families that benefit from the program connect health-related initiatives to the assistance they get.

In order to get aid to individuals far more quickly, he also gave officials instructions to expedite the program’s operation by cutting the normal eight to ten-month implementation period to only four months.

How Does The New System Work?

  • In order to prevent identity theft, digital wallets would be secured by biometric verification and connected to beneficiaries’ CNICs, according to a briefing by BISP Secretary Amir Ali Ahmed.
  • Additionally, 10 million free SIM cards will be given out across the country; the first phase is currently under way in Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Hyderabad.

BISP Kafalat As A Source Of Women Empowerment

The launch was praised by Senator Rubina Khalid as a significant turning point in Pakistan’s social protection history.

According to her, tying benefits to women’s CNICs offers both official recognition in the national database and financial aid. Programs for digital literacy will be implemented, she continued, to assist female beneficiaries in efficiently use the new system.

She reiterated that the BISP Kafalat upholds the women’s empowerment goal of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, which President Asif Ali Zardari has continued and that Prime Minister Shehbaz has further reinforced.

Importance Of Cashless Digital Wallet Payment

PM Shehbaz has emphasized the value of a digitized, cashless economy on numerous occasions. The administration is prioritizing efforts to digitize Pakistan’s economy and move financial transactions to a cashless system, he stated in a meeting last week.

He instructed provincial chief secretaries to completely collaborate with the federal government in bringing the Raast digital payment system to the district level while presiding over a review meeting on Islamabad’s cashless economy.

Sharif was pleased with the advancements in digital financial systems and the shift to a cashless economy.

Digital ID and Raast Integration to Boost Secure Transactions

The gathering was informed by officials on Pakistan’s plans to develop digital public infrastructure that will integrate national identity cards, biometrics, and mobile numbers to provide each citizen a digital ID. These IDs will make payments safe and effective.

According to the briefing, provincial governments have made strides in integrating the Raast system with public-to-government and government-to-public payments.

Authorities also told the gathering that while talks are underway to build digital infrastructure with Pakistan Railways and the National Highway Authority, federal development agencies have approved the right of way for fiber connectivity.

Conclusion

The launch of 10 million digital wallets under BISP marks a major step towards financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, and a cashless economy in Pakistan. With secure biometric verification, links to education and healthcare, and faster implementation, this initiative is set to provide beneficiaries with safer, quicker, and more transparent financial support while moving the country closer to digital transformation.
